The Business of Life

A life lived half way is no life worth living,
but sometimes a life lived fully is a terrifying thing.
A live lived wholly is a life of striving,
but those who trust in Christ escape its most bitter sting.

Summer Camping

It is always a great feeling to get out into the world and discover new places and also set new limits on yourself. Yesterday I went camping with some friends in a part of Central Idaho I have never been to before, and it was beautiful. Grand mountains sweeping up from the desert plane engulfed my Ford Explorer as we went further up and further in.

While making one of many detours, we passed an old diesel tractor pulling a covered wagon used by a Basque Shepherd who grazes flocks on the mountains. The sight of a life lived in covered wagon, using horses and dogs to herd the sheep seemed like a view into another century.

Dirt roads tend to be the only means of driving in the Idaho backcountry, but they bring you to places I never knew existed. Grand forests, crystal streams, deer running up to the car, driving out of the woods and suddenly finding yourself looking down a steep hill 200 feet to the river below were all views which astounded me and reminded me of the beauty of the Lord who made it all.
So, dear friend, Go and Enjoy the Lord's glorious gift of this earth.

Sabbath Continued

Well, this summer is flying by in many ways. I am starting to recieve applications for the fall semester as we continue moving forward with the college and every week end is spent away from home. I spent a week down in Salt Lake City with the Evangelical Free Church youth conference. Needless to say, rest has been laying heavy on my mind, which is why I have decided to quit at Pizza Hut, trust God and take one day a week to rest, to enjoy Him and my family and to remember the joy of living. Tuesdays are now my Sabbath, since week ends are so crucial with a need to be working in churches. I am looking forward to my first sabbath tomorrow.

Obedience

I have been struggling with rest and with working on ACC, and I have not been willing to rely on God for my daily sustenance so I have continued working at Pizza Hut.
Several problems with this arise:
1. There is a clear need, both in scripture and in my own experience, for rest. If I am working every day, for 10-16 hours a day, there is no room for rest.
2. A minimum wage job with tips will not cover my expenses once student loans come due in the next month.
3. I have been needing and desiring to spend more time seeking God, trusting Him, but have not been able to because I am too busy.
Therefore, I am putting aside my own fears and doubts, trusting that God is working here to bring about His kingdom. I am a part of His work through Albion Christian College and need to trust in Him and pursue Him with utter abandon.
Resolved: I am quitting Pizza Hut to work for the next two months on starting this college, on obtaining funding, and on bringing about a bit of God's kingdom in southern Idaho.
Please pray that God will sustain us (and give as an answer to that prayer)

Morning Glorious

The Sound of softly chirping birds drifts in my open window.
I cannot help but breath in deep the air He sends me.
The trees are in full foliage, sending much of their life giving sap to fruit now, not to budding leaves.
Beautiful morning, I will bless the Lord with my mouth, and give thanks to Him with my writing.
